This month, the BC Building Trades and local businesses have partnered to launch the BC Coalition for Community Benefits.
The coalition was started by members of the labour movement and has expanded to include industry voices. Together, we believe that projects paid for by B.C. taxpayers can and should provide tangible long-lasting benefits that go beyond the mere project itself. These benefits can be secured through Community Benefits Agreements or CBAs.
CBAs can secure work, skills training and fair wages to qualified local residents and groups such as apprentices, Indigenous workers and women in trades. With predetermined wages, training and worker ratios, CBAs can also ensure projects are completed on time and on budget; there is greater accountability and transparency.
