Plumbers Local 170 Welfare and Pension Plans

Eligible UA Local 170 members and their families are provided pension, healthcare and other benefits through Plumbers Local 170 Welfare and Pension Plans.

Some of the benefits that eligible UA Local 170 members enjoy:

Health & Welfare Benefits – coverage for benefits including: MSP, Extended Healthcare, Dental, Life Insurance and more.

Pension Plan – post retirement benefits for members

Jury Duty Plan – financial support for members who have been selected for Jury Dut

Sub Benefit Plan – supplemental benefits paid to members who are temporarily unemployed and are collecting Employment Insurance Benefits

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship #4798 ‐ UNITED Association of Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local 170*

Two scholarships of $2,500 are provided by the United Association of Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local 170, to students entering their first year at any public university in British Columbia, and proceeding to a degree in any field.

Scholarship #4731 ‐ Affiliation Scholarship ‐ Piping Industry Journeyman Training and Industry*

*Two scholarships of $1,000 each, provided by the Trustee Board of the Journeyman Training and Industry Promotion Fund, are available to the dependents of UA Local 170 Members entering the first year at any British Columbia university or college.

*Check eligibility requirements. Both scholarships are administered by UBC, but have slightly different eligibility requirements.

Pacific Region Maintenance Council Bursary

Eighty‐eight (88) one thousand dollar ($1000) bursaries will be awarded to supplement the cost of postsecondary education for the children of union members whose local union has a General President’s Maintena nce Agreement or Natonal Maintenance Agreement within its jurisdiction. UA Local 170 does have an agreement with the GPMA and NMA.

UA International Scholarship Fund

The fund benefits UA members and their dependents (please see criteria in the detailed instructions found with the application). Up to 112 scholarships totaling as much as $200,000 will be awarded annually and the scholarships range from $1,250 to $5,000 each. Check (website) for full details on eligibility and criteria.

J.Russel St. Eloi UA ScholarshipThe J.Russell St. Eloi UA Scholarship Fund was established to enable career opportunities and to support higher education; including technical and vocational training.Applicants must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Enrolled in or awaiting acceptance from a Canadian pipe trades training institution/college or other post-secondary institution

Applicants can apply on the basis of one or more of the following categories:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Financial Hardship/Socio-Economic Barriers
  • Under-represented in their chosen trade/field
  • Career displacement/transition
