UA 170 Business Manager and Financial Secretary Al Phillips is urging energy choice in a letter written to CleanBC. CleanBC is a provincial climate and energy initiative developed by the Government of British Columbia.
In the letter, Phillips calls for “a unified, province-wide approach to energy regulations for new construction—whether residential, industrial, or commercial.” He also argues for consistent regulations across the province, explaining that a “unified provincial standard is essential to ensure consistency, fairness, and predictability across British Columbia. Regulations that vary from one jurisdiction to another not only create confusion but also create uneven playing fields that disadvantage businesses and workers in certain areas of the province compared to others.”
Phillips closes the letter by saying, “people deserve dependable and affordable energy options today, while also being part of a broader, balanced transition to a renewable energy future. Ensuring that this transition is fair, economically viable, and technically sound is critical—not only for our members and the industries we work in but for the long-term wellbeing of the province as a whole.”
